OUR CLEANROOM

Ensuring the purity of our ISO 7 cleanroom environment is one of our top priorities. Here at Laser Dynamics, we take product cleanliness very seriously. Whether we are processing stainless steel, rubber, plastic, anodized aluminum, or exotic materials, you can be assured that the parts will be of the utmost cleanliness. Our cleanroom is ideally suited for the medical and electronics industries.

We keep our ISO 7 cleanroom free of dust, bacterium, and other impurities through a rigorous cleaning schedule and through ongoing training and monitoring programs. We use only class 10,000 (ISO 7) approved equipment in our cleanroom; we follow both ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 procedures for maintaining our cleanroom environment.

WHAT IS A CLEANROOM?

A cleanroom is a controlled environment that greatly reduces the number of surface-lying and airborne particles. Cleanrooms typically employ ceiling filters to create positive air pressure in the room and a continuous flow of air, that enters the room from the ceiling and exits the room near the floor. Cleanrooms are not just walls and ceilings that protect the air inside from outside particulates. They are rooms that are regularly cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected with specific cleaning procedures.

The air in a cleanroom is regulated and controlled through an air treatment system that uses HVAC pre-filters and HEPA main filters. The count level of the cleanroom, in this case, Class 10,000, specifies the number of 0.5 um (micron) or larger particles allowed per cubic foot of air.

• AREAS OF THE CLEANROOM

When entering a cleanroom, the first area that you will encounter will be the gowning area. This is the room where personnel will put on protective clothing, which normally consists of a cap, face mask, smock, shoe covers and gloves. This room also serves as an airlock between the outside space and the main cleanroom area. This airlock area usually has a slightly lower air pressure than the air pressure that is in the main room.

• PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

The special clothing worn in the cleanroom is designed to minimize introducing particles and contaminants into the cleanroom environment. It is imperative for companies with cleanrooms to follow proper gowning procedures and cleanroom protocols to avoid contaminating the products that they are working with.

UNDERSTANDING THE LEVELS

The purpose of a cleanroom is to control a workspace by limiting the presence of sub-micron particles. In a Class 100,000 cleanroom, there must be less than or equal to 100,000 0.5-micron or greater sized particles per cubic feet of tested air. In a Class 10,000 cleanroom, there must be less than or equal to 10,000 0.5-micron or larger particles per cubic feet of tested air. Air samples are regularly tested in specific locations in the cleanroom. The cleanroom also undergoes a rigorous annual testing and certification program by an accredited outside agency.
